Event CAPTAIN
Position: Event Captain – Part Time
Department: Guest Services
Experience: Some Experience Required – Cash Handling & Bartending Preferred
Reports to: Guest Services Management Team
Schedule: Must be able to work weekends and holidays and during school breaks.
Schedule varies and is dependent on the event calendar, weather, and guest
attendance. Due to the nature of the position, the majority of shifts will be on weekend
evenings when most events occur.
Pay: $17 to $19/hour

- Have knowledge and understanding of all Zoo policies and procedures.
- Assist Management in ensuring safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all areas of the Zoo’s operation.
- Ability to interact and communicate cordially with the public.
- Possess in depth knowledge of Food and Beverage preparation and presentation
- Be able to coordinate with onsite vendors and departments to ensure timelines are adhered to
- Coordinate with the caterer to manage event updates, logistics, and service expectations
- Lead staff during the event to guarantee all aspects are operating, as outlined in the Banquet Event Order (BEO)
- Assist and communicate with event host during the event
- Ensure the Event locations have been setup as specified in the Floor Plan and BEO
- Coordinate with the sales, event setup, and catering teams to ensure that they have the most up to date information and are prepared for the event
- Able to be trained to operate the necessary systems and equipment as needed for the events (AV equipment, POS systems, Event Sales System, events calendar, Zoo phone system, etc.)
- Must be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), which outline essential opening and closing procedures for the event spaces and certain Zoo aspects
- Respond to guest needs, both stated and implied
- Must be able to practice basic problem solving and able to adapt to any changes with the event
- Manage bar set up and supplies
- This position may require prolonged standing
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs - Must have a driver’s license
- Must be able to work flexible hours including nights and weekend
- Must be able to work inside or outside in a variety of weather conditions
- Bilingual is a plus
- First aid and CPR training is preferred
- RAMP Certification is a plus
- Must be at least 21 years or older
- Computer skills: Windows, POS, Microsoft office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Ability to Multi-task and address needs in multiple areas of the Zoo
- Must be able to pass background and child abuse clearances
- Two forms of official valid identification are required
