Habitat & Range
Lagoons and swamps with dense vegetation throughout mid-to-southern South America
Identification
Mid-to-large waterfowl that's slightly smaller than true swans, with feathers that are almost completely white except for black found on the tips of their wings
Diet
Plants, small aquatic invertebrates, and small fish
Reproduction & Lifespan
Male and female breeding pairs tend to form long-term bonds. Females lay up to nine eggs at a time in their clutch; both parents will raise fledglings. Coscoroba swans can live up to 20 years in captivity
Fantastic Fact
Coscoroba swans will vocalize a "cos-cor-oo" call when they feel threatened. They also hoot as a contact call between mates.
