Geoffroy’s Marmosets are part of the Callitrichidae Family, which also includes golden lion and emperor tamarins. They are sometimes called “White-Chested” or “White-Headed” Marmosets due to their physical features. Monkeys in this family are generally smaller than other primate species.

Habitat & Range
Lowland rainforests of Brazil.
Identification
These monkeys are small and can weigh between 9 - 13 ounces. They have white faces with elongated black ear tufts. Their bodies are primarily dark brown brown with some color variation in their tails.
Diet
Fruits, flowers, nectar, and small prey, including frogs, snails, lizards, and insects. They are known to eat the gum of trees and are the only monkey species known to forcibly gouge holes to access it themselves.
Reproduction & Lifespan
Like tamarins, marmosets will often give birth to twins. This species is sexually monogamous, with a gestation period of about 4.5 months. Males of the species have documented helping females in raising the offspring.

Scientists believe that a marmoset's small stature is an evolutionary adaptation from an insect-dominated diet.
