RETAIL ASSOCIATE
Location: Elmwood Park Zoo

Title: Retail Associate
Employment Type: Part Time – Seasonal (April 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026)
Pay Rate: $15.00/hour
Reports To: Guest Services Management Team
Schedule: Must be able to work weekends and holidays. Schedule varies and is
dependent on the event calendar, weather and guest attendance; schedule subject to
change and may require late shift hours.
- Assist the Zoo in fostering an appreciation of wildlife and their habitats that will inspire active participation in conservation
- Assist management in ensuring safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all areas of the operation of the Zoo
- Ensure guests are properly greeted
- Communicate effectively with all guests and groups
- Assist with all guest needs
- Operate point of sale system and cash register, managing transactions and ensuring a balanced till
- Contribute to the organization and neatness both behind the counter, and on the sales floor
- Assist with receiving, pricing, and stocking merchandise in accordance with standard operating procedure
- Perform other duties as assigned by the management team
- Prior cash handling experience required
- Excellent customer service skills including: conflict resolution, de-escalation, greeting and guest engagement
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to remain composed and attentive in large crowds
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for extended periods
- Ability to carry/lift up to 40lbs, repeatedly
- Occasionally required to climb and/or work on a ladder
- Self-motivated
- Must be able to pass background and child abuse clearances
- Two forms of official valid identification are required
