Emperor tamarins are small monkeys with long white sweeping whiskers that make them appear to have large mustaches. They are well known as an outgoing and boisterous species.

Habitat & Range
Lowland tropical rainforests in the southwestern region of South America's Amazon basin.
Identification
Up to 10 inches long and weighing up to 2 lbs. Their distinctive, long white mustaches easily set Emperor Tamarins apart from similar primates.
Diet
An omnivore's diet of fruits, flowers, and nectar, along with insects, small birds and frogs.
Reproduction & Lifespan
Dominant females will breed with multiple males. Young tamarins begin to move independently from their mothers at 2 to 5 weeks old. They reach sexual maturity at the age of 2. Emperor Tamarins have been known to live up to 20 years.
Fantastic Fact
The "Emperor" name comes from the tamarin's mustache that resembles the one worn by Wilhelm II, the last Emperor of Germany and the King of Prussia.
