Programs for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts

Elmwood Park Zoo has just the right program for your scout group. A variety of workshops for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts provide the chance to complete most or all of the necessary requirements for several conservation, nature and animal-related badges. Each workshop promises hands-on fun and learning with planned activities and up close experiences with some of our zoo animals.  Check out our Scout Programs Brochure.

Boy Scout Badges

Environmental Science - For Boys Scouts working towards their Eagle Scout. Completes most of the requirements.

Reptile and Amphibian - Study completes most of the requirements.

Cub Scout Workshops

Each scout workshop is 1 to 1.5 hours long and includes live animal encounters and hands-on activities.

Wolf and Bear Cubs - Sharing Your World With Wildlife
Learn about different groups of animals, habitats, and how we can help endangered plants and animals. Completes part of achievement.

Webelos - Naturalist Badge
Learn about bird flyways, food chains, and how to identify poisonous plants and animals in our area. Completes all badge requirements.

Cub Scout Academics: Wildlife Conservation

For Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos Scouts.

Wildlife Academics Belt Loop
Learn about our natural resources, how a food chain functions, and find out how we can help endangered species. Completes most requirements.

Wildlife Academics Pin
Learn about how some animals use camouflage to protect themselves and talk with Zoo staff about how we aid in wildlife conservation. Completes all requirements.

Girl Scouts: Daisy Petals

Making the World a Better Place (Rose) - All animals have an important place on Earth. Learning about them and protecting them can make the world a better place.

Using Resources Wisely (Green) – Learn about some animal homes and find out how using resources wisely can help the animals.

Girl Scouts:  Brownie Try-Its

Animals – Learn all about animals in this very hands-on Try-it. Completes most of the badge requirements.

Senses – Compare and contrast our senses with animals’ senses in this unique Try-It. Completes most of badge requirements.

Eco-Explorer – Learn what an ecosystem is and what four things all animals need to survive. Completes most of badge requirements.

Watching Wildlife – Learn and observe animal communication, animal homes, animal coverings and what animals need in their habitat. Completes most of badge requirements.

Girl Scouts:  Junior Girl Scout Badges

Wildlife – Learn animal classifications, dangerous animals and plants in our area, Pennsylvania native species, endangered species, and animal features. Completes all of the badge requirements.

Plants and Animals – Learn animal classifications, pest plants and animals in our area and wild vs. domestic animals. Completes most of badge requirements.
